Original Art Deco Iron Doors, Fer Forge Antelope/acteon Edgar Brandt, Ruhlmann
Absolutely stunning original ART DECO wrought/cast ironwork/part hammered (fer forgĂ©) doors with leaping Acteon/antelope/stag styling and scroll work detailing so typical of Edgar Brandt and the period. Probably custom designed and totally unique. The hammered detailing most characteristic of work by Edgar Brandt (check last 2 images of Brandt’s fire screen). Overall condition very good/solid with later gold paint (marked/chipped in places) + glazed with reeded/ribbed glass (1 door only). A premier metalsmith in the early 20th century in France, EDGAR BRANDT designed and fabricated some of the most beautiful architectural and decorative ironwork of his age. Lyrical gates, doors, and tables, including his most famous screen, L’Oasis, appeared at the seminal 1925 Exposition des Arts Decoratifs, in Paris, which gave the name Art Deco to the new style of designs. Combining motifs from ancient Egypt and classical Greek sources, floral and animals forms, and machine-inspired geometric designs, Brandt created items that became synonymous with the most lavish designs of the time. His workshop and showroom in Paris, along with a gallery that featured works by other contemporary artist-craftsmen, produced luxury goods and private commissions. Grilles, fire screens, doors, tables, andirons, vessels and lighting devices were all exquisitely executed. The doors are oversize dimesions. H: 201cm W: 83cm. The doors are double sided and pamels open out each side with additional hinges to fit glass panes (held by a screw in internal frame). Can of course use for their intended purpose or as 4 wall panels, mirrors, room dividers and still have door frames to use as doors. Consider in very good solid salvaged condition with imperfections, can touch up gold paint or a blank canvas how want to finish. Whichever way decide to go, an amazing piece that will add plenty of style and character to any space however you use them. Likewise welcome to arrange collection. THESE DOORS ARE VERY HEAVY – ESTIMATING AT LEAST 80 KG EACH. IDEALLY NEED TROLLEY/DOLLY TO MOVE AROUND WITH 2 PEOPLE. IF NO WHEELED ASSISTANCE THEN NEED 4 TO MOVE AROUND. Any questions, let me know.
